“Join Dr. Sarah Goodwin, the Executive Director of the Science Communication Lab, for a screening of two short films that showcase the creativity, curiosity, and collaboration that fuel scientific discovery, followed by a Q&A. Good Chemistry tells the story behind a Nobel Prize-winning experiment on CRISPR, illustrating the breakthroughs that can emerge from persistence and imagination. Decoding Ancestral Knowledge, an award-winning short film, explores the role of scientific identity and demonstrates how the observations of Indigenous knowledge can inform and inspire modern scientific practices.

Decoding Ancestral Knowledge

Enter the captivating world of scientific exploration through the lens of Kiana Frank who is a proud Native Hawaiian and microbiologist. Her unique journey intertwines traditional wisdom with the latest molecular techniques, casting light on the intricate interactions between microorganisms and the environment they inhabit.

Good Chemistry

Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna transformed science with their groundbreaking research on CRISPR. Their 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was the first awarded only to women.
