Please join us on Thursday, August 8th for the World Premiere of our upcoming short film on sea level rise, Uncertainty.
Seas are rising, but how high will they rise? Uncertainty, a short film from Duy Linh Tuy and the Science Communication Lab, takes us to the Mississippi River Delta to see rising waters through the lens of an earth scientist, a civil engineer, and a geographer. Their studies of land, history, and the water itself show how scientists try to grapple with uncertainty to understand what’s happening, and to support efforts to plan for the future.
Following the screening, Jennifer Frazier of the Science Communication Lab will moderate a conversation with climate adaptation scientist Dr. Letitia Grenier of the Public Policy Institute of California and Executive Producer Elliot Kirschner exploring sea level rise in the Bay Area and how science and film help us visualize and plan.
About the Speakers:
Letitia Grenier, Ph.D. is director of the Water Policy Center at the Public Policy Institute of California and former director of the Resilient Landscapes Program of the San Francisco Estuary Institute, working to bring science based-approaches to policy.
Jennifer Frazier, Ph.D. is the Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Science Communication Lab and Adjunct Professor at UC San Francisco who curates exhibitions and programs on contemporary science.
Elliot Kirschner is the Executive Producer of the Science Communication Lab and an Emmy-award winning filmmaker and New York Times bestselling author who focuses on films that explore the nature of science.
