Letter from Director & Producer Dr. Mónica Feliú Mójer:

Growing up in a rural working-class community in Puerto Rico, I was surrounded by animals, elders with vast knowledge about nature, and the rich tapestry of my culture. The SCL’s newest short film, “Coming Home” captures how this upbringing made me a scientist, instilling in me curiosity, and values like equity and solidarity, which guide my work today.

By delving into the intricate connections between community, identities, culture, and science, “Coming Home” celebrates the invaluable scientific wisdom held by historically excluded groups. The film is an unapologetic celebration of my Puerto Rican heritage, which is not just a part of who I am, but at the core of my professional identity, fueling the work I do. The film speaks to the power of representation, community, and of bringing one’s full self into science.

Join me May 9th, 3pm ET/12pm PT for the virtual world premiere of “Coming Home”, in collaboration with SACNAS. Watch with hundreds of others and stay for a Q&A with me. If you are unable to attend, don’t worry! You can watch the film after the premiere on YouTube.

I hope to see you at the premiere! In the meantime, you can watch the film trailer to get you excited. Share with friends and colleagues!
