Stop. Look closer. What do you see? 🔎
In a recent survey by Stony Brook University, researchers found that our award-winning film, OBSERVER, is helping people reconnect with nature and practice more mindful observation. Six months after watching, viewers reported:
• Taking more intentional pauses in their busy days.
• Listening closer to bird calls and the wind.
• Realizing that nature isn’t just in a park—it’s everywhere.

Try the OBSERVER activity with your students:
1. Screen the film (Free for teachers on our website!)
2. Give students a simple frame to focus their observation
3. Observe: Have them place it in a local spot—a sidewalk crack, a tree trunk, or the school garden—and use all their senses to document what they find.
Ready to bring this to your classroom? We have everything you need on our website, including:
🎥 Free access to the film
📚 Our K-12 Activity Guide for hands-on observation
🏫 A Middle School lesson on how observations lead to scientific inferences
🟥 3D printer file for the iconic red square from the film

That’s a wrap on our 2025 #SCLAmbassador program! 🎉 Thank you to our incredible pilot group of educators who raised the bar so high and developed extraordinary lessons for fellow biology and environmental science teachers to use.
If you missed the webinar where our #SCLAmbassadors showcased their lessons, you can watch the full recording on our YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/gaFByv8G

New lesson for biology and environmental science educators! 🌳🧬 Genetic Engineering & Conservation (Grades 9–12)
Can we—and should we—use biotechnology to save a species from extinction?
This free, NGSS-aligned lesson by Renee Haines puts students in the driver’s seat of a real-world bioethical dilemma: the restoration of the American chestnut.
In the classroom, students will:
🧬 Evaluate: How CRISPR can support species conservation.
📊 Practice: Building strong Claim-Evidence-Reasoning (CER) skills through Case Studies.
🗣️ Debate: Group poster sessions and a Gallery Walk.
Renee found this lesson sparked “fantastic discussions” and students really enjoyed the social and collaborative aspects.
📝 Teacher Note: This plan is highly adaptable! You can run it as a 2-day module or use the expanded 5-day CER version for a deeper inquiry. If using the Jigsaw method, we recommend groups of 4 for the best student engagement.
