Ron Vale is a Member of the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, and a faculty member in the MIT Department of Biology. From 2020 to 2025, Vale served as HHMI Vice President and Executive Director of the Janelia Research Campus; prior to that, he was a Professor of Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology at the University of California, San Francisco, where he was a faculty member for nearly four decades. Vale’s research has uncovered fundamental principles of molecular motors, cytoskeletal dynamics, and intracellular organization. His contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including the Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award, the Shaw Prize in Life Science and Medicine, and the Canada Gairdner International Award. Vale is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine, and the Royal Society, and is a founder of iBiology (now the SCL), ASAPbio, and IndiaBioscience.
